5 Fall Wardrobe Must-Haves That Will Inspire You to Abandon “All Black Everything”
The passage of Labor Day and prevalence of pumpkin spice marks the unofficial start of the fall season. It’s the time of year when we trade our whites and corals for a mostly black fall wardrobe. But does it really have to be this way? Surprise—great fashion comes in color at every time of the year.
These five pieces inspired me to shop for more colorful looks for my fall wardrobe refresh, and they may just do the same for you! Check them out below.
1—Floral Embroidered Leather Jacket by BLANKNYC ($168)

I found this gem while shopping Urban Outfitters’ Labor Day Sale and instantly fell in love. The floral embroidery is a great take on the popular trend that dominated during spring and summer, but in more subdued, fall-appropriate hues.
2—‘Sanderson’ Mule by Steve Madden ($90)

Mules are trending in a big way right now, and this pair shows why. The mauve suede upper is easy to mix and match with most neutrals, but the pearl inlay heel makes this shoe seriously stand out. Still not sold? Imagine this shoe styled with a camel trench coat and a white v-neck T-shirt half tucked into cuffed, light wash boyfriend jeans. If that doesn’t convince you to add these to your fall wardrobe, I don’t know what can.
3—‘Katya’ Cat Eye Sunglasses by Banana Republic ($98)

These sunglasses offer a more relaxed take on the cat eye shape, making them universally flattering. The blush-toned beige hue will go with almost anything in your closet, including the rest of your all-black wardrobe. The oversize, chunky frame means that these sunglasses are sturdy enough to withstand your purse and they give off major “Don’t talk to me” vibes.
4—Silk V-Neck Cami by Everlane ($65)

In the wardrobe of the (newly reformed) color-averse, this 100 percent silk camisole has endless wear potential. The retailer, Everlane, is a pioneer in accessible, sustainable fashion and breaks down the exact cost of producing their garments and provides documentation pertaining to the factory conditions of the workers who produced them. Feel good about making a sustainable purchase and style it with a chunky black coatigan, dark wash jeans, and cognac leather booties.
5—’Making Faces’ Pullover by Madewell ($88)

Speaking of sweater weather, this cozy merino knit deserves a space in your closet this year. A little more chic than an “I’d rather be sleeping” graphic tee, this sweater would pair well with black skinny jeans and black leather riding boots.
Shopping in color can be hard, especially when you’re not used to doing it. But hopefully these pieces have given you some of your own ideas on how to better incorporate color into your cold-weather wardrobe this year!
What do you think of my picks? Will you be adding any to your fall wardrobe this season? Drop me a comment and let me know!
